How To Do A Registry Repair

How To Do A Registry RepairHow to Do a Registry Repair - Registry Repair Software. The Windows Registry is a large ever changing database of information that contains the Windows settings and options, as well as all of the settings for hardware, software, device drivers, user preferences, etc.

Whenever you install/re-configure software, or make changes in control panel, for example, those modifications are reflected and recorded by changes in the windows registry and inevitably, minor registry errors can (and quite often do) occur.

Over time the registry can get quite bloated and fragmented. This is actually a cumulative effect so when this happens we invariably find that this results in a system slowdown.

If you are running computer repair software this is taken care of for you as part of your maintenance but if not then a quality registry cleaner should be an important part of your maintenance toolkit

Common Sources Of Registry Errors

One common source of registry errors that necessitates the need for registry repair, for example, is the uninstallation of programs or applications.

Even though you may have uninstalled your programs correctly either using the programs own uninstaller or even add and remove programs in the control panel, the program often leaves a residue in the registry - in particular references to files and programs that are no longer available. This results in the need to conduct a registry repair.

Registry Repair Software

Manually registry editing is definately left to the experts, as its contents can be somewhat cryptic, and an editing error can make your system inaccessible. Instead you would be much wiser to use a specialist third party registry cleaner also commonly referred to as registry repair software.

Best Registry Cleaner - Registry Repair Software

What is the best registry cleaner or registry repair software? Well, that's a question that is very difficult to answer and in a lot of cases it comes down to personal preference. Our particular favourite is full computer repair software such as XP Repair Pro 2007 basically because apart from being a simple registry cleaner it is a fully featured  computer maintenance tool as well.

But if you just need Registry Repair software or a registry cleaner we would recommend one the following:

RegCure

RegCure Registry Repair SoftwareRegCure is high on our list of preferred registry cleaning software and is a very popular tool as well.

Just like many registry repair tools it has been designed to take advantage of the most up to date technology in registry cleaning, this gives computer and laptop users the most advanced prevention and maintenance tool available and it does that very well.

Regcure has an very comprehensive feature set and also offers free customer support into the bargain.

You can find more information on our RegCure page and access to a free scan as well.

Registry Restore Points

Before editing the registry, be sure to set a system restore point so that if anything goes wrong, you can return to a previous configuration.Setting up a restore point is very simple: To set a restore point in Windows XP go to Start > Help and Support> then pick a task  (Undo changes to your computer with System Restore)....you can set a new restore point here.

Or for Vista, go to Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Backup and Restore Center. In the Tasks panel on the left, select ‘Create a Restore Point or Change Settings’. In the System Properties window, select the System Protection tab, and then click on the ‘Create’ button to create a restore point.

If you have the capability then general IT protocol dictates that you should always try and back up your data before any system maintenance.

Registry repair is relatively simple using registry repair software, and can help you save time and money even if you are only a little computer literate. It goes without sayin though that if you are unsure about editing a registry yourself there then you should enlist the help of a local computer repair professional.
